the third day, we put on our bathing suits and headed to our scheduled boat tour. it was a private tour so just us and the captain! we cruised through a calm river with walls of oysters and kept an eye out for dolphins. our destination was Morris Island--an island where Civil War soldiers fought, died, and were buried. our captain was full of historical information and local culture that made the tour even more interesting. if anyone ever goes to charleston, you've got to do this tour! it was amazing.
hanging with the captain
we saw the fin of a dolphin!
then we saw the WHOLE thing! this dolphin kept swimming around us. he got so close we could see his big eyes trying to look at us!
we arrived on the island. the lighthouse in the background is the 6th oldest lighthouse in the nation!
the captain told us that sea shells were abundant which i was excited about....and also told us to look out for bones from the buried solders. that's when i decided naomi was not going to play in the sand.
TONS of seashells!
even sand dollars! i have never seen so many whole sand dollars on the beach in their natural environment! it was incredible!
i did a lot of sea shell hunting
it was so special and such a blast to walk the island with peter and naomi.
the ride back was not quite as calm as the ride out
but it sure was fun
a random truck we saw...i'm wondering if this allows them to use pretty much anything they want in their burgers & dogs?
that afternoon, we toured the aiken-rhett mansion
the left grey building is where the slaves lived. the right grey building is where the horses stayed.
carriages
enjoying the porch view!
we finished the evening off with one last dinner together and then flew back home the next morning. it was such a fun and memorable getaway.
hopefully many more to come.
