christmas was a little different for our family this year. two days before we were supposed to leave for missouri, i got a call from my dad that my sister was in the middle of emergency surgery on her colon. to be honest, i was suddenly in a panic. i was so shocked by the news that i didn't even ask any questions. i just said, "okay, dad." and hung up! a few seconds after i hung up, i realized what i had done and called him back for more details. it's a long story, but basically what looked like an awful turn of events, turned out to be a major blessing for my sister. her colon was actually in pretty rough shape and needed to be taken out. they removed 90% of it.
when we all realized that if we kept our original plans, (going to missouri for christmas) we wouldn't see my sister's family, we decided to reroute up north. it was strange staying at my sister's house without her there. we visited the hospital a lot and made the most of the situation. i was so thankful we got to be there. christmas just isn't the same without everyone together.
